SMSRS first conference paper will make its day-view at SITE 2009 to be held in Charleston, South Carolina, USA, 2-6 March 2009. The PI has sent in a conference paper and a roundtable session for this gathering of minds that looks at Teachers' Education. Here is an Abstract of the paper sent for this conference: Title: An Exploratory study on the use of Audience Response Technology (ART) via SMS for lecture/workshop sessions in a Wireless Business Application module. Abstract: This paper is an exploratory study on the use of ART via SMS for audience in large lecture settings. The system is referred to as SMS Response System (SMSRS). A modified 41-item version of the Audience Response Technology Questionnaire (ART-Q) (Erina. L & et al., 2008) was used to elucidate students’ feedback in a multi-dimensional approach. The questionnaire is administered to students in a Wireless Business Application module for a diploma programme in a local polytechnic. The lecturer’s feedback was gathered qualitatively through interviews to elicit the perspectives on the use of SMSRS and the impact on the lectures/workshops. This study provides insights into instructors’ creative techniques in using ART from an educational perspective.Workshop: Title: SMS Response System for Instantaneous Audience Feedback Abstract: Audience response is an essential feedback to instructors in a large lecture setting to ascertain that the audience follows the presentations, understands the material of discussion and even getting consensus of the cohort on certain issues or questions. This workshop, intended for educators, teachers and lecturers who wish to engage their audiences in an interactive way and avenue for instantaneous feedback, provides a hands-on approach on how they can make use of the mobile phones as a vehicle to get responses from students in classrooms or in a lecture setting. The audience for the workshop is encouraged to bring along their mobile phone/laptops for a hands-on use of the SMS Response System (SMSRS).
